I debated and decided to keep it but redeem what I thought was a minor manufacturing finishing defect. There were 3 surface protrusions on the inside back panel, all covered in paint, but 2 of them were very pointy, like a starburst, you can potentially bloody your fingers on those. Given how the mailbox seems well made and nicely finished, I decided not to bother returning for refund or replacement, suspecting a new one may have similar blemishes. So I filed them down, and was going to repaint them when my son looked at them and said for the middle one you can see through. When I flipped the box over, that's when I realized that they were created by a punching/stamping process that probably attached the hinged metal cover to the box temporarily until it can be permanently secured but most likely done by hand since each one was different. Such a minor detail that could have been done differently, cleanly.
