First of all the speaker is very good for the price you pay. In a relatively quiet room, it will easily fill the room with sound. With that in mind, it's great for completely casual listening if all you want is background music. If you start getting too picky about sound quality, there are a few issues; Up close, you can tell the speaker plays bass well, but isn't very loud from a distance. If you hit the "Sound" button (which I think should emulate surround sound), the highs and mids become noticeably sharper. I never listen to the speaker without "Sound" turned on (which can contribute to lower bass levels over a distance). If you bring your ear close to the speaker, you will hear a strange hum, similar to frequency hiss. This hum is not audible at all at normal listening distances. As I said, I only noticed these problems while searching. My girlfriend doesn't notice them at all and loves the speaker. You can't expect anything in this price range to compete with a larger, more expensive unit, but compared to other speakers in this class I'm very impressed. I've heard many others (JBL Charge 2, UE Boom, etc.) and out of all, Sony is my favorite. So, with its small size and relatively affordable price, you will not be disappointed.
