My friend and I got it direct from the manufacturer and for the first few months of owning it we had trouble getting it to work bring to. Then after about 3 months he stopped working altogether. We thought maybe we just needed to buy new filters and while the one that gets replaced the most should last around 6 months, for us maybe it just didn't(?). Anyway we buy new filters and replace them and manage to get 1-2 jugs of water out before it stops working again! We read all the instructions multiple times and did all the technical "checks" that are in the manual, but not only did it stop working, the blue light on the screen stopped coming on. So we've been messing around with this thing for about 4-5 months(?), maybe now and my boyfriend is pissed and wants it back. I call customer service and they say it's a shame you only have 30 days to return it. But since it's clearly defective and has a 1 year warranty, I can pay $19.99 and have a new base (not the jug/filter/etc --- just the bottom white part) shipped to us and* hope* that it will fix the problem. Problem. Well, at this point (after buying new filters and mineral solution) we're approaching $500, so what's $20? So I'm waiting (probably 7-14 days) for the arrival of the new base, and we have to buy a lot of bottles of water now. I will update this when I know we have a working water filtration system. Meanwhile, I would not recommend anyone to spend money on it. There's no way to tell in just 30 days how well this thing will perform for years to come. Must have a return policy of at least 90 days. Note: aquatru customer service (which, by the way, is not that easy to find) told me that I had to call them every time I had a problem so they had a record of it. She acted like I would call her and report a problem, I could get it back maybe in 30 days. How do I know they make exceptions for returns after 30 days? The troubleshooting instructions seem pretty clear but she says I should have called her to troubleshoot?! In my opinion, customer service is usually responsible for orders, returns, etc., and I don't usually call for troubleshooting. Also, I live in Hawaii and am in a completely different time zone and they are only open for limited hours. So if I knew that, I would coordinate my life by calling them, but guides are usually great for troubleshooting. and I'm very comfortable and usually able to make things work - but not something that just completely breaks. To top it off, after my new base unit arrives, she wants me to keep the broken one - so he'll keep it for about 30 days! She said because they MAY want to pay to have the base shipped back to them for the engineers to look at. But if they don't contact me within 30 days then I can kick it out!?! Hmm, I live in a tiny apartment and have no place to store this bulky thing --- this whole scenario is just ridiculous. Either you want it back now or you don't. I don't keep trash for 30 days. Uhhh. again I do not recommend. **If you choose to ignore my review and buy this, I would buy it here from Revain so you avoid S/H fees from Aquatru and I would buy the 4 year coverage plan that Revain offers here offers for it - YOU NEED it the thing breaks easily! Much luck! *** UPDATE: We received the warranty replacement base in the mail today, everything is set up as advertised and you will need to run 4 jugs of water through it before it's officially potable. Guess what? We made 2 pitchers and when we tried to make pitcher 3 it wouldn't come on! Do you mean that seriously?!? I unplugged it, plugged it back in, tried other outlets, removed the pots, put them back on, double-checked. There is no reasonable explanation as to why it could just break - even the food - - for nothing after only 2 mugs AND THIS IS A BRAND NEW REPLACEMENT! I could feel the plastic (under the jugs in the middle of the base) and it was very warm. Does the motor overheat because of the two small water jugs, and maybe there's a built in switch that won't turn on the power if it gets too hot? I do not know? Your guess is as good as mine. We were definitely able to play pitchers back-to-back with one another, so I can't imagine that was it. My general point is that Aquatru is actually AquaTRASH. They don't deserve 1 star because they are a huge waste of money and time. 10 STARS NEGATIVE for it. I've attached two photos, one of which shows a blue light that illuminates when the system is on/ready. Another image shows the black screen that appears when it breaks and won't turn on again. πππππ
