I was concerned if 5 inches would be big enough and that's fine. This is a good fixed size for my two children aged 1 and 4. It spins pretty well if you squeeze the plunger a few times. in quick succession. Thanks to grandma for figuring this out (hey, she played with a lot of them as a kid). annoying. Tolerable for my ears. I'm taking off a star because the bottom is plastic. Most of the toy is metal and overall it looks pretty good and looks like it will last a while but the bottom part looks like it could wear out. faster than the rest. My 1 year old chews on the handle, enjoys watching it spin and even tries to push the plunger. My 4 year old can move it but isn't coordinated enough to move it very quickly or in a balanced manner.
