Review on Secure Your RV with the Polar Black Paddle Deadbolt Entry Door Lock for Travel Trailers by Mike Sutherland

*** ATTENTION - DANGEROUS DEFECT ***

Be very careful. Our closure had a serious defect with potentially fatal consequences. The internal plastic latch that locks/unlocks the latch (red lever in the picture) broke within 1 month of purchase. The inner "d-shaped" hole on the red latch that sits over the latch's "d-shaped" metal post was cleaned inside in one night. It's locked but won't unlock and we're stuck in the trailer. When we tried to unlock it, he turned around but didn't unbolt the latch. The plastic tab of the bolt was torn off on the inside. If the camper caught fire, we'd be roasted. Luckily I had a screwdriver inside and was able to disassemble the latch and manually rotate the latch post to release the latch. I replaced the internal latch with a 14 year old latch that I removed. The 14 year old deadbolt still works perfectly (ironically I replaced the old deadbolt due to a recall of its external locks) while the 1 month old deadbolt completely failed at worst. Please note that I have filed a report with the CPSC as this type of error could have potentially fatal consequences.
