Review on SONY MDR-Z1R WW2 Signature: Superior Sound Quality in Black (International Version) by Brad Atl

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Undisputed Sound Champion

If the HD800S is an Alpha, it's an Omega. Best closed-back headphones I've ever heard - and I've heard almost all of them. Note: This is not intended for mastering. These are the perfect headphones for listening. The mids are wide, full, forward and absolutely immersive. The highs are exactly where they should be. Brilliant but never tiring. Bass - They have a mid-bass and a sub-bass that are right where they should be without being boomy. Powerful, deep, captivating. The balance is a bit warm, but honestly these headphones work for almost any genre of music. I find them very similar to the sound signature of the Audeze LCD-4. The processing quality is perfect. The most comfortable over-ear headphones I've ever worn. Noise isolation is very good. Headphones I had or tried (only closed headphones): Audio Technica ATH-W5000-ZMF Eikon and Atticus-Mr. Speaker Aeon Flow - Closed-Mr. Ether C Flow-V-Moda M100 and Crossfade-Shure 1540-s Pioneer SE-Monitor5-Oppo PM-3-Audeze Sine-Audeze LCD-XC-Fostex TH-900 MK2 speakers and other Fostex TH models (actually can not counting them as they are half open) - Beyerdynamic T5P Gen 2 - Many others, just too many to list. I would choose (and have chosen) the Sony MDR-Z1R over any of them. The TOTL headphones you are looking for. My current setup for reference: Closed back - Sony MDR-Z1R > 2.5mm balanced silver-coated copper cable > HiBy R6 Open back - HD800S > Balanced 4-pin XLR > DX7 topping
