I don't know which I like better, these or the good old wire discs. BUT I will say that it is much safer than old school bikes. And you won't be left with spherical acupuncture needles when you're done with them. Wire is still best for cleaning screw threads, but I think it's perfect for everything else. If your finger accidentally touches it while working, the wire will detach from the skin where it hasn't, without serious effort or intention. I think this is the best sand for cleaning cut material before welding seams or edges etc. I put mine on the buffer base and it feels good to hit the parts with it and continue welding. I haven't had mine in so long so I'm not yet sure how its durability compares to wire wheels - apples and oranges actually. I would give it five stars but the adapter is missing from the 3 I've bought so far. I had to run it with smaller shims and then larger shims to secure it well when I tightened the shaft nut. Otherwise it will spin freely under pressure or vibrate too much when spinning. It's not a deal breaker, but I shouldn't have done it. When I did that, it worked very quietly. I bought one from another sand and it was the same. It's still a great tool in the store. I'm older and do stupid things sometimes, so it gives me the confidence that I won't be leaving any of my hands on it any time soon. Try it, you will like it.
