My mother-in-law has a fashionable one that costs almost three times as much. I can't see the difference in results between them. This waffle maker makes good deep waffles that almost always come out smooth. There are no fancy bells and whistles other than a ready made light that if you look at it and follow the directions will tell you when to flip and when it's ready. I've found the light to provide accurate information and I've rarely had to cook more waffles, nor have there been any signs that they were overcooked. After a trial run, I was able to determine the correct amount and consistency of the dough to be prepared. add to get good waffles. I've been using it at least once a week since Christmas 2014. If you're looking for a no-frills waffle maker that produces consistent results, then this is your waffle maker in my experience.
