I have a hard plastic mailbox in a brick. It has an edge but not as deep as the metal boxes. So I had to cut the bars shorter. And since the plastic edge isn't as strong as the metal edge, I drilled holes through the metal sleeve in the part of the box that comes out of the brick and screwed the door in place. The magnetic closure is a practical feature.
