The problem with the pancake design is that there are physically two opposing lighting surfaces. This creates a double "image” on the road. There are a few OTHER designs that explicitly address this, but they don't have standard sizes and are usually TOO BIG to fit in standard suitcases. The brightness corresponds approximately to that of a halogen. Since the surface is perpendicular to the road and NOT pointing directly at it, the reflective part of the body plays a HUGE part of the overall light output. In my case, I knew all this was happening, but I absolutely had to install!
