Even if the load is more than 15A/1800W, the GFI switch will not work.
I knew I was close to my limit but when I stuck one of these watt/ammeters in the wall I found I was using between 1900 and 2000 watts. This equates to 16-17 amps. The built in switch never clicked and now I'm worried if it's even worth using. I'm definitely going to replace it with a strip rated at 20A, but that's a little worrying.
