Useless as a battery holder!

The statement "plug and forget" printed on the packaging is completely wrong. In fact, if you really want to "plug and forget," buy a spare battery. Why? Because this charger is not a real battery. When you connect it to a battery and plug it in, the first thing it does is ask what type of battery you want to charge. As soon as you have made a selection, the battery will be charged. The problem is that as soon as the charger loses charge for even a moment, it forgets which battery you chose and happily waits for you to remind it. So if you "forget" the charger won't pick up again and the battery will keep draining itself. Also the checklist of compatible apps is wrong. This charger is designed to work with vintage cars and tractors. However, this is not entirely true - only 12 volt applications are supported. If you have a vintage car or tractor with a 6V system, this charger will not work. Schumacher's documentation is mixed as to whether this device will automatically recognize a 6V battery - they appear to have copied sections from dual voltage chargers and pasted them into the instruction manual for that charger. The idea of having a scrolling display showing the percentage loaded is a great idea, but since the display stops updating after a few minutes, this feature seems pointless. After a few minutes, the only indication on the front that it's charging is a single green LED. The alphanumeric display goes out and provides no additional information. My advice is to skip that useless charger and buy a real battery (like the SC1343) that really is "plug and forget".
