UPDATE: I like this coffee maker a lot more since I started thinking of it as a French press in the brewing strategy. As many people know, the French Press takes longer than is normally recommended to brew better-tasting coffee because the water around the grinder isn't constantly changed (hence the extraction efficiency is lower than a pour-over or automatic drip machine). . ). I found Clever Dripper's coffee very mild compared to my Hario V60; a bit spicier but lacks really good flavors. I ended up changing the brew to 25g/400ml, 200°C water, 30 seconds degassing, adding the rest of the water and waiting 5 minutes for a total brewing time of around 5:45-6:00. The coffee now tastes fantastic and I fully understand the appeal of this coffee maker. The best I can describe is that it tastes like a syrupy 7 minute french press without as many super pungent and sometimes bitter elements that are probably related to the lipids that the paper filter keeps from getting into your coffee. Between a pour over and a french press, it's more like a french press but with a clean flavor that's similar to a pour over. The other big difference, of course, is the lack of bases in the drink. I dig it up. It's a good coffee maker, to be sure. It is very comfortable and easy to use, easy to clean and consistently produces good coffee. That being said, I've seen it compared to the pour coffee method and it's not that good. I came to this conclusion by comparing the same coffee made with Clever and my Hario V60 over the course of a week. Otherwise, the brewing method was the same: 22 or 27 grams of coffee and 16 grams of water for every gram of coffee. Before brewing, I soaked a Clever or Hario with the paper filter in place with freshly boiled water and poured it into a vessel of my choice to preheat it and also remove any paper flavors. I pre-soaked 30 seconds and then added the rest of the water and waited another 3:45 (clever) or added the rest of the water for 3:45. I have preferred the filling every time. The best way I can explain this is that the frosting always brought out a little more of the coffee's inherent "brilliance", while the Clever was somewhat lacking in comparison, bringing out the buttery flavors easily. A B+ at best compared to a solid A Hario. Clever might be better suited for entertaining large groups due to its convenience for brewing large batches. For the rest I stick to watering. It doesn't save time, just requires less babysitting, and is less prone to errors, but overflows are easy when you know what to do.
