Review on 5-Pound (2 Pack) Carib Sea Super Natural Moonlight Sand - Optimized for Aquariums by Andy Cornelison

DO NOT USE IN SEA RESERVOIRS

First I remembered how beautiful this sand was. I have been keeping reef aquariums for over five years. Installed my new 20g cube and the aquarium sand was perfect. It ran a full, slow cycle rather than a quick start just to make sure the correct bacterial colonies were formed before moving in. Finally, after six weeks, it was time to move the cattle. When placed in the tank they were unhappy, but I put it down to the stress of the tank's movement. Four days passed, and everything looked on the verge of death. Clownfish at the bottom, not swimming, almost no life, but the perimeters are almost perfect. Began research and Caribsea recalled this sand over two years ago due to the high mortality associated with it. Every thread I read mentioned that within a week of using this sand their tanks were completely wrecked and dead from heavy metals being sucked out of it. It can work well in freshwater tanks, but if you love your reef fish, don't use this sand for a reef tank. Accustomed to the old aquarium, the clown fish feels at home; It was several days before they returned. Unfortunately, Bob wasn't so lucky with the shrimp. TEAR.
