It is not solid wood except pressed solid particle board which it is not. Even the fairing is plastic, although I have to say it's a very nice imitation - the best I've seen so far. None of this would have bothered me as I wasn't expecting solid wood for the price, but what should be in the product description is that all furniture smells of formaldehyde. A compound known to be a carcinogen in many US states. I'll leave it in the garden in the shade of the box it came in for a couple of weeks to see if that helps. I'm sure it's streamable and it won't matter much in a year's time, but right out of the box it might bother a lot of people. If this fact were mentioned in the product description I would give 4 stars because it is really very impressive. (Five stars are reserved for real hardwood). I also wish the rotating mechanism had a ratchet or required more force to move. It wobbles at the slightest touch. So if you have a glass of water on the bottom plate and someone accidentally bumps into the one above, your water glass will be easily swept away.
