This review is for a Steelman color coded tread depth gauge. This is one of the most beautiful tread depth gauges I have ever seen. The color-coded dial drew my attention to this gauge. I also liked that it came with a pouch and had a low price. Unfortunately, I ran into a couple of issues with this sensor that caused me to only give it two stars. First, the sensor is deflected 1/128 inch. Every time I tried to zero the sensor, it read minus 1/128 of an inch. Second, the gauge sticks to the inside of the pouch, so you actually have to pull the gauge out. Third, the lens appeared to be of very poor quality and very prone to scratches. I'm willing to bet it's just luck getting an accurate result as it looks like the same manufacturer makes them for multiple companies. I will return to my QuickCar Racing Products 56-104 tire tread depth gauge. It's the same body as this Steelman, but it zeros perfectly, has a nicer lens and body. The bag looks the same between Steelman and QuickCar Racing Products, but the interior of the QuickCar feels lined with felt rather than leather. This makes it easier for the sensor to slide out of the QuickCar housing. I ended up sending the Steelman sensor back.
