Doesn't do what the average user needs.

Pros: Works at 4K and 60Hz Both optical and audio outputs are output simultaneously. Cons: Surround sound doesn't work on MANY devices. I bought it to get sound through an HDMI cable. My setup doesn't work with TV audio output, so such a box must be present. This is to get the sound from the HDMI cable before it reaches the TV. The only device I tested that worked with surround sound without an optical cable was the PS4. If you go into the audio settings on PS4 you can change the audio type to Dolby Digital and the optical output of the converter will actually put out surround sound. All of the other devices I tested only output stereo, so only my front speakers worked. I tested this on: 1) a high-end gaming PC with a 1080 TI graphics card. 1080 TI can output audio through HDMI output. The problem, however, is that since this converter is HDMI pass-through, the audio that the computer sees is just the TV. It doesn't see the J-Tech device as an output, which is probably an issue every other device I've tested had. My computer saw my HDMI output as an output on my LG TV. Since the computer only sees the LG TV, it knows that the TV only has stereo speakers, and so my computer only outputs stereo, which is why my rear speakers don't work. 2) The Playstation 4 is the only device that worked as the PS4 has an audio setting where you can force the Dolby Digital output audio type and this allows the optical output of the converter to have true 5.1 surround sound -Device to send signal through the J-Tech. 2) Nintendo Switch Sound The Nintendo Switch settings allow you to choose stereo or surround sound, but not specifically Dolby Digital or other types. So I could only get a stereo signal from the converter. 3) Xbox One - Same problem as on PC and Nintendo Switch. Can't output 5.1 as it only sees the TV as stereo. 4) Sony BluRay players - outputs stereo only. Again, the main problem is that most devices don't see the J-Tech box as an audio output. It transmits the signal to the TV, so the TV is perceived as a stereo output only. Although I have a Logitech Surround Sound 5.1 system connected to the J-Tech converter's optical output, most devices only see the TV as stereo, so it only emits a stereo signal. I even switched the J-Tech device to 5 channel and it still does the same thing. If you don't have a PS4 or you just want stereo audio, this device won't work for you.

Pros
  • Accessories and consumables
Cons
  • I don't remember, but there was something
