Review on Sharpening Whetstone Whetstone Sharpening TOCYHF by Hco Cortes

Fur. Good, but with some drawbacks.

I'm a scout leader and driving instructor, so I often sharpen knives. I also prefer natural stones over composite silicate stones. This one is good, but the quality control of the casting leaves a lot to be desired. First it is roughly trimmed on the bottom and sides, leaving only one surface to sharpen. When I ordered it, I couldn't read the last line of the description, which says the underside is left rough, so "non-slip". I call it BS and like to think it's more of a cost-saving measure on the part of the manufacturer. The edges of the sharpening surface are not beveled very well and there is a chip on one corner. The pros are that this blue stone is a great solution for sharpening and this has a nice 5000 grit finish. This also comes in a box that can be a keeper. It is slightly thicker than others and has a magnetic closure. I would say it's good for basic sharpening or for beginner/intermediate users who want to use natural stone. This is not a professional stone and certainly not one of the best Japanese whetstones, but it will get the job done.

Pros
  • Whetstones
Cons
  • Ugly Packaging
