Review on Magellan 702211: Secure Bike Mounting Bracket for Enhanced Cycling Experience by Chris Edwards

Bad design for mountain bikes

This mount has a number of disadvantages that make it difficult to recommend. First, mountain bikes typically have handlebars that are wide at the stem and narrow towards the handlebars. If you have a mountain bike, there's a good chance the mount won't fit your handlebars. Second, if it fits, the weight of the eXplorist will cause the mount to twist while you ride unless you really tighten it. This is especially bad if you have a carbon rod. You may be able to fit the mount close to the stem so it also rests against it for support. This will prevent it from spinning while driving. If Magellan had made the metal parts of the mount so that it could be rotated 90 degrees, it could be mounted on a stem. This is a much more stable area for something heavy. Unfortunately this is not the case. As another reviewer mentioned, most bike lights have a better mount design.
