I really like this product. I've spent a lot of time researching the AC4000 and AC5300 routers and found that this model's features, specs, and price point are perfect for my needs. It also has solid professional reviews. But I had reservations based on user feedback, particularly regarding repeated disconnects that required periodic router reboots. However, I took the knowledge and risk and bought hoping that the connection issues would be fixed in the latest firmware or that I would be lucky and not have the same issue. Unfortunately I'm here. Below are the details to help you decide to buy the Nighthawk X6S (R8000P). Pros: great specs (tri-band, CPU and offload processors, MU-MIMO, beamforming, number of external antennas, etc.), solid professional reviews, expected wired and wireless speeds for a gigabit connection, good coverage in my house, customizable configuration, bold design, the router works cool and flawless when the connection does not drop. The Bad: The only issue I can think of is that every 24 hours the 2.4g range (*5g ranges don't seem to be affected) stops allowing traffic. The lights on the router show connected, as do devices connected to the 2.4G band, but you can't access websites or web services. I'm using a fairly custom configuration (specified channels on all bands, no smart connect, QoS disabled/WMM enabled, most devices with static IP addresses, port triggering and port forwarding settings, etc.) and don't think this is a is problem with configuration as many others have confirmed. The router, either the hardware itself or the software, simply has a problem if it disconnects after a period of time. It's almost like a timeout or sleep function as it always happens around the same time: the problem occurs when I use my 2.4 devices for the first time in the morning > reboot > works fine all day/evening > but on next morning the connected devices are not going anywhere without rebooting. ***UPDATE September 3, 2018*** After further troubleshooting, I discovered that the issue is related to how the R8000P handles devices that have an integrated network/connection power saving feature with WMM enabled. If I disable WMM (which limits the speed btw!) OR if I disable the network power saver on the devices (the best option!) then I don't have the disconnect issue described above. Now I have stable connection and speed for 6 days with no reboots. Add 2 stars. *** UPDATE 09/18/2018 *** The router is fully functional since the last update. I've added a wired Netgear hotspot (EX7000) as well as a few other devices via LAN and Wi-Fi and haven't encountered the data connection drop issue at all on the 2.4g band. Very happy with this purchase.
