My closet is full of travel coffee mugs and after trying this one I might as well gift the rest because I'll never reach for them again. My first impressions of the mug, even before using it, were very positive. I ordered matte red and it is very aesthetic. My intention was to find a large mug with a hole for a straw, and this one obviously has one. But what's nice is that while the straw-tight perforated lid allows you to also pop the lid open to take a sip, this company takes the extra step of providing two lids. The second opens by sliding the plastic part and you can also put a straw in this hole. It's not as snug which can result in more spillage than using a straw in a different lid if you knock it over. But the ability to use either lid, straw or drinking straw is a very nice convenience that I haven't seen on many other mugs. And the ones I've seen with this feature were MUCH more expensive. I personally like the curved straw and the fact that it's curved right where it exits the cup. No need for a ridiculously long straw. The brush you get to clean the straw is also of much better quality than the others. I've had others in the past that were so fragile, with bristles so soft, they were useless. This is not the case here! The cleaning brush that comes with the Smart Cooler is very effective. The bristles are strong enough to remove debris on the inside of the straw. The wire is strong, you have to push it towards the bend of the straw a bit, but that just tells me I can be sure that any dirt that collects at the bend, which is likely to collect the most, will be safe also located neatly cleaned. I've used it for both cold and hot drinks now and it has kept my hot drinks hot and my cold drinks cold much longer than any other mug. With freshly brewed coffee, the cup heats up slightly, but no more. This keeps your coffee hot, not your hands. At that moment I had just had an iced coffee, then, as is so often the case, I breastfed for about 3 hours. The ice cream turns out to be the same as I made it, there's no sweat on the cup at all and it's slightly cool to the touch. I tried both lids and neither leaked while drinking. The seal is strong enough that I have to push hard to put it on and pull hard to take it off, which is reassuring and makes me think I wouldn't think the lid would if I accidentally popped it open drop a table or something come off. I've heard and seen reviews of other mugs (not this one!) that some of them might have a metallic taste. I feel nothing in this cup and straw except what I put in it. The shape, texture and lack of perspiration allow for a tight and secure grip. For avid coffee drinkers, the travel mug is not "just" a travel mug. . If you know what I mean I highly recommend this mug. It does what it's supposed to do for much longer than its competitors, with all the little extras, and it still looks sleek and attractive. UPDATE: Wet all week. I make iced coffee around 9am and after 6 hours the cup is still half full of ice. I also ordered a second one for my husband. Although he prefers to drink hot coffee all day, in 90 degree weather (which I can't even figure out how he does) he left home at 7am for lunch at 11:30am Came home and said it was still hot.
