Review on Cross Land Maintenance Foldable Mechanic by Rusty Calcara

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I'm glad I took a chance at this booth.

I just finished building my first set of 29er wheels (Stans Arch) using this stand and I'm glad I took the opportunity to purchase this item. I wasn't expecting much based on some of the reviews but I found this tripod to be the perfect solution as I didn't want to invest a lot of money in a professional tripod. It has some flaws but I give it 5 stars because it's easy to use and I got great results without spending a lot of money. Reviewers who mention the item is not properly assembled probably unpacked it incorrectly. It can stretch/unfold in two ways: towards you or away from you with narrower legs. If you turn it wrong, the control arms will not be positioned correctly. This stand made it very easy to clamp and straighten my wheels. One of the control arm feelers is looser than the other, but I just use a feeler gauge and spin the wheel when I work on the wheel. Use an elastic band wrapped around the probe if you want to make it tighter. I do not recommend using this stand for testing dishes. Use a cymbal tool or the method I describe below. The right arms aren't perfectly centered, so I didn't use a cymbal dynamometer. I tested the plate on the table with a couple of cups (same height) and a stack of coins. If desired, the ruler levers can be centered by slightly bending them. The plastic levers that the wheel is mounted on flex a bit. This can cause the wheel to move slightly left or right when attached to the stand. This makes the measuring equipment inaccurate.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
