All parts of this device are stainless steel, which I really like; no corrosion, no signs of wear, always looks like new. Six S-Clips fit all my keys. Remember you only get two keys per clip. So this block is NOT for more than 12 keys. The S-Clamps are strong and the springs that hold them closed are also durable stainless steel. The plastic latches that keep these springs from opening even under load are secure and if you know how to turn them, you can intentionally pull the clip or key out of the clip much easier than with split rings. In the closed position, plastic locks work very well. The plastic isn't hard or brittle, so the locks feel solid enough. The main clip that holds the S hooks doesn't work for a reason; it has a similar stainless steel spring that "snaps" into a notch in the bend of the clip. This notch catches on the belt loops of my pants, making it difficult to remove keys; I replaced the stainless steel screw cap from the hardware store which is very pretty and elegant! So I use S-Clips but not the main clip. I'm deducting a star because of this notch on the clothes. In retrospect, I could have bought the interlocking S-clamps separately for less.
