Review on WEISHI Nostalgic Long Handle Butterfly Open Safety Razor with Double Edge Blades by George Matthews

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great for the new DE razor!

This is a great razor for anyone just starting out with the double-edged shave, especially if you're used to the old 'break and drag' method from years of using multiple blades with cartridge razors. . Why? Because this razor is VERY soft and VERY gentle. While many people recommend Mercury for beginners, do yourself a favor and check out the blade gap between this and the Mercury. For comparison, the Merkur 23C and 28C have blade spacing of .025 inches, which is between 3 and 4 on the Gillette Super Adjustable (Black Beauty). The Weishi has a blade spacing of .022 inches, which is the setting. adjustable from 2 to a super. The Weishi has the same blade spacing as the famous Gillette Tech, which was produced in the millions (and with good reason!). Blade clearance isn't everything, but in my opinion the difference is night and day. The new guy complains about razor burn on the first start because they didn't master the angle of the blade and started with too much razor. I recommend this razor to any beginner who will listen. Is that a $200 piece of art made out of stainless steel? No, but the price isn't the same either, and you know what? It offers a great shave even if you are a clumsy beginner. Yes, the Weishi has a metal head, but guess what? Just like Mercury! For the price, these razors just can't be beat, and if you find you need something a little more aggressive after you improve your shaving skills, still have a Weishi if you want something softer and spend just that, less than twenty bucks ? The finish of this razor is nice too.
