Honda Blower and Resistor Assembly Replacement

A few quick things. I have a Honda Fit 09 that only had the fan running at 4 max a few days ago. Did some research and found that the fan and resistor assembly needed to be replaced. I contacted my local dealer and he quoted me a price of $457 for parts and labor + tax. Ouch! I thought replacing those two parts couldn't cost that much! Further research revealed it was an easy process and I was able to get both pieces at Revain for 1/5th the price including a one night stay at Prime. Received today, fan works great! As some others have said, the blower seems to have a higher noise level than the original. I hardly noticed it at high altitude. I'm happy with that. Also, I bought it with a resistor assembly as it was damaged. I could probably keep using the factory fan but didn't want to risk it. I found several places on the internet that described how to remove the fan and resistor package. My fan went out in 5 minutes. It's just three star screws, a power connection and you're done. It was more difficult when mounting resistors. I found that the easiest way to take it off, rather than climbing upside down off the floor, was to take the glove box out (push and pull the large rubber clip on each side) so I could access both screws directly. with extension. However, I quickly found that they would not budge! When I finally got them half out, I pulled them both out with pliers. Turns out Honda glued the front half of each bolt into the holes. Let me say it again. HONDA GLUES THE BOLTS TO THE HOLES! It took me over an hour just to loosen those two screws. Anyone trying to do this on their own and having trouble loosening the screws that attach the resistor pack to the back of the shaft can be the culprit. I had to put some inward force on the screws and I nearly ripped them both off. Good luck to those who do it themselves! It was really easy work and it would have taken me 20 minutes if I hadn't been held up by those glued screws.

Pros
  • is not a replacement part
Cons
  • no instructions
