I decided to put anti-slip tape because I almost fell on my stairs. Before installing it, I washed the ladder thoroughly and removed the dirt and grime that had accumulated over the years. The residue made it slippery when wet. After that I covered the stairs with BEHR waterproofing. Then I installed the ribbon. The tape is thick and rough, like sandpaper. It was very easy to install. My advice is to first remove 1/3 of the paper from the backing and stick, then slowly remove the rest. Recently it rained and I walked on the tape. It wasn't slippery and I didn't slip because of the tape. I hope it survives the harsh Midwest winters. At the moment it works great.
