Just received these rails and they are perfect for supporting a Dell R510 console in a 2 post rack. All you have to do is fold over the rear segment of the two-piece rail so that it compresses both sides of the rack, which consists of two vertical strips of sheet metal spaced 3 inches apart with square holes running the length of them. To cantilever a server on a 2-post rack, you need a rack type with 2 sheet metal strips with square holes per post, 3 inches apart. The design of these guides is perfect for that "unintentional" use. I swear whoever designed it had this exact use case in mind and calculated the mounting holes/slots to support a two post boom configuration. It's perfect. Except that the tabs on either side of the server that would normally make contact with the OEM rails are sticking out too far. I had to bend the NavePoint rails a bit so they turned outward to fit the R510 rail mounting tabs between these NavePoint rails, but it worked. The R510 installed this way has much less sag than my R710 installed the same way. but with Dell Sliding Ready rails. The finished rails have a tool-less mechanism to engage square holes on the posts, but this mechanism allows for more "play" and therefore sag. Be careful with what I did, but in theory these guides should work for a 2 post console server. Just flip the back so the brackets are 3 inches apart and voila! 2 stand. It works great on my two post NavePoint stand. However, I have to say that I was not satisfied with the equipment included in the kit. The rails come with 8 bolts, ideally sized to attach 2 pieces of each rail and flush with the male thread, but each rail has 8 holes for attaching 2 segments. So if you want to take advantage of all 8 flush bolt holes, you're SoL! They also included 16 longer bolts that I thought at first would match the cage nuts. However, no cage nuts or plastic washers were included like other NavePoint rackmount products. And the longer bolts are too small a thread size to fit on the cage nuts. They actually have the correct thread diameter to join the rail segments together, however they are not flush. They stick out about a centimeter behind the internal threads. So if you want to use all available holes, you have to be content with non-flush bolts protruding to the side. Well maybe NavePoint will fix that and send me the right gear!
