This adapter is great for clean, noise-free recordings. This is because the circuit uses a small transformer to isolate the audio signal. Cheaper adapters (like $10 or less) don't use a transformer to reduce interference and noise. Such an adapter is especially necessary if you want to connect it between a phone and a headset amplifier. Despite this, in my opinion, this device has one major disadvantage. It uses a mono jack for audio output, which is a problem when you're recording to a recorder or sound card that has a stereo audio input for recording. Most recording devices and sound cards have a stereo audio input. This means that when you record a telephone conversation on a stereo tape recorder or sound card, the audio is only recorded on one channel and there is very little crosstalk or noise on the other channel. It's true that the sound from the phone is monotonic (one channel), but when recording you want that monotonic sound to be recorded on both the left and right channels for playback on all speakers, not just the left or right and for Eliminate any noise on the channel where no sound was recorded. And it's true that you can adjust the settings on your recorder or PC to only record in mono, but for most this will be impractical and you can forget about it before recording. The Enhanced Phone Recording Adapters are designed for both left and right channel recording (see Mike Sandman Enterprises, Inc. Deluxe Handset Recording Adapter). If your recording device has a pure mono (1 channel) audio input, that's fine, but most of the time it doesn't. I highly recommend that VEC redesign this unit with a stereo audio jack and provide audio output for both left and right channels.
