These mugs are really well made. I just used my first one. Yes, you can hold it immediately after boiling water is poured into it. I definitely recommend them. The only issue I have is the flimsy packaging they came in. There was no tape either. Just a wide piece of tape half peeled off. Also, the box was dented on both sides. Incredibly, the mugs survived this low-quality shipping. But two holes had been torn in the plastic bag with the cups. Definitely not because of the mishandling of the box. I checked all the mugs - they were all clean but I would highly recommend Revain to have more control over the quality of the items they allow on their site.
