Review on Derby Extra Double Razor Blades by Carrie Thal

Revainrating 4 out of 5

By far the best I've tried.

Tried knives from Gillette, Feather, Personna, Astra, Wilkinson, VanDerHagen. These are by far my favorite blades. After reading many blade reviews on Amazon, I've come to the conclusion that everyone has their own favorite; I guess because everyone's facial and hair growth is different. I'm sure nobody likes a bloody face, so each rating is subjective and based on your own shaving style and face. To that end, I'll try to determine my shaving style, as well as my hair height and thickness, to help you decide if it's right for you. I'm going to break this down into two different categories: objective and subjective. Objective are actual differences and subjective are my personal opinion. First objective. These blades are individually wrapped in wax paper and arranged in 5 plastic bins that act as razor disposal bins. I think that's a pretty important consideration as you end up having to dispose of these razors in a safe way. This saves you having to purchase a separate waste container. They are neatly and professionally packaged. The blades themselves are stamped with a 1,2,3,4 mark which is clearly visible from the underside of most conventional razors. I suspect this is so that you can rotate the blade to keep track of which blade (and which side) you are currently using. I shave 4 times with each blade. I shave at 1, then rotate blade 2, then rotate blades 3 and 4. At 10 cents per blade, I get 4 shaves, which costs me 2.5 cents per shave. Sure I could shave each side at least twice, but eventually it's not worth the effort. So with one blade I shave 4 times. Now to subjective sensations. I've tried many other blades and just couldn't get an even shave. Once I shaved reasonably clean, and another time I cut my face to shreds. This applies in particular to VanDerHagen Personas and Blades. I approached each shave with trepidation. I also noticed that if I stopped mid-impact, I would have gotten a good slash in the face with the blades for the Persona. The Astra and VanDerHagen blades tended to pull at my whiskers instead of cutting them. I am a Caucasian Caucasian male. I shave every day, I have semi-sensitive skin. I don't have any major skin problems like acne that would make shaving difficult. I have fairly fine hair but tend to have a lot of it. If I don't shave one day, it's a little noticeable, but my face is very itchy. Because my hair grows fast and looks good enough, what I need most is a comfortable, even shave. Derby blades take care of that. Every shave is even, smooth and clean. I am very happy with these blades. They work great for me. If you have characteristics similar to mine, these blades will most likely suit you as well. Much luck.
