Review on ๐Ÿ”Œ Syba SY-PEX15019: High-Performance 8-Port Serial Card with OXPCIe958 Chipset - PCI-Express RS-232 Solution by Jorge Kumar

Revainrating 5 out of 5

It just works.: Serial Port Cards

I bought this to expand a machine running CentOS 6 (Linux). I wasn't 100% sure it would work, but it was cheap so I gave it a try. Plug it into the PCIe slot and boot the machine. Linux recognized the card and loaded the generic serial driver. All 8 ports are working properly. My only complaints, and they're really picky, are that 1) the Octopus cable terminates in connectors with screws, not nuts, so I had to get a set of nuts to secure my serial cables in there (4-40 x 6 mm), and 2) the Octopus cables are a bit shorter than I'd like - just over a foot or so. Bottom line: if it works on Linux, it should work on anything. If you need a multiport card (and the few of you who do are in a shrinking group), get one. It's cheap and it works.
