Description of πŸ”§ Boston Gear Pressure Miter L113Y

Straight miter 90 degree mesh transmits mechanical power between perpendicular shafts. Pressure angle of 20 degrees for a lower contact ratio between gears, resulting in higher load capacity than smaller pressure angles. Low carbon steel (.2 percent carbon) for applications where the hardness and strength of higher levels of carbon are not needed to transmit torque and motion. Unhardened teeth for 1:1 gear ratio applications where hardness and strength are not needed to transmit torque and motion.

All Metal Cast Gears

I bought 2 of these gears to use in a 90Β° power transmission setup. Haven't installed them yet but they are very strong cast metal gears that align well and feel like they were just what I needed for this project. I'll update this after using them a bit, but it might still be some time.

Pros
  • Direct mesh at 90Β° transmits mechanical power between perpendicular shafts
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

Boston Gear L115Y Review

vintage planer. They required some additional machining to work in my application, but since they weren't hardened steel, they were fairly easy for the machine shop to machine. They appeared to be a very well made product. Processing looks good. Some pictures I've seen of these gears show them with a keyway, which they don't have. They work very well in my application.

Pros
  • Low carbon (0.2 percent carbon) steel for applications where higher carbon hardness and strength are not required for torque and motion transmission
Cons
  • Brief Guide

Boston Gear L99Y Angle Gear

At first I was glad to know that Revain offers this gear with free shipping. Something like this isn't sold at the local hardware store and I was expecting UPS shipping to be billed by an industrial supplier. This movement was a perfect match for the older L99Y movement in my machine vise. (I found an old but unfinished product that never had a second gear installed.) The new gear didn't have a mounting hole in the bushing, so I drilled and tapped a set screw. It was another good experience…

Pros
  • Unhardened teeth for 1:1 gear ratio gears where hardness and strength are not required for torque and motion
Cons
  • Something else
