My old vise was a 50 year old Craftsman made in the USA. It was something I could see passed down in the family. But one day I was bending metal and a loose center bolt that I wasn't aware of created enough play to break the bottom of the vise where it pivots on the bracket. I was surprised to find that Sears used to offer replacement parts that are long gone. I figured buying a new one would be quick and easy. That was until I started seeing bad reviews for many of the vices sold online and in local stores. Available American vises comparable to the ones I had are gone, the metal now used is much weaker and durability is a big issue. I only use the vise for general home shop purposes, but I don't want to be afraid of heavy use or the need to replace it. Then I came across this Wen 455. I checked it out and the weights confirmed it. I've only had it for a few weeks, but so far I'm very impressed. The quality was evident right out of the box. It's a really solid piece of equipment that holds up great, you can feel it's well made when you screw in the sponge and I would expect the dual twist locks to hold the vise even better while you work. I have every reason to believe it will last for many years.
