Review on DB Tech Bamboo Compact Foldable Slicer by Amber Fox

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Not useful unless you have a special knife

Great concept. Terrible build. The knife slots are too thin. I don't mean that the bread slices are too thin for my liking, I mean the little slots that the knife slides into when slicing, too thin for any of my knives. I have 2 bread knives from different manufacturers and none fit in the slots. I have a dozen other knives for various other purposes and none of them fit. Some fit from the top, but as you get closer to the bottom the slots thin out a bit so even the knives that originally fit don't reach the bottom. And that's just for wider slots. Again, I'm not talking about slice thickness. Full-thickness knife slots. Some of these are practically touching, and you still have to push them apart to insert the knife. Others are wider at the top but then get so thin I can't even stick a toothpick in at the bottom. the width of the whole unit. The vast majority of bread knives available here at Revain are 8 inches in diameter. The outer edge to outer edge dimensions of this device are 7.75 inches. That means the 8 inch knife is useless. Even a 10 inch knife is stiff as you only have 2 inches of movement before slipping out of the slots. That means the most you can probably move the blade is 1.5 inches. Have you ever tried slicing a loaf of bread by moving the knife 1.5 inches at a time? It's not pleasant.
