Just in case it helps someone, I've been trying to use the Cable Matters adapter with a Dell Precision T1500 graphics card and an Nvidia Quadro NVS 295 (has two DP connections) to use. confirms that this adapter will not display video until the operating system (in this case Windows 8.1) is loaded - perhaps due to a temporary issue with the text/splash screen refresh rate and resolution? I ended up using the Dell RN699 adapter as the primary display, which allows me to view the splash screen/POST results/boot prompts, and saved the Cable Matters adapters for computers that have a second display. They appear to be well built and well packaged with protection for the DP end.
