Approximately two and a half years ago, I began using this lens. I think it's fair to say that this was an extremely fruitful acquisition. He is almost ideal in every way. The one area in which it falls short of its equivalent from Sigma is in terms of how sharp it is at the long end when the aperture is wide open. This is not a deal breaker for me because I only use the lens for portraits at a focal length of 50 millimeters and an aperture of 2.8, and in those situations, having an excessive amount of sharpness is pointless. However, even this drawback is compensated for by the best distortions, which are provided by XA, as well as a slightly improved stabilizer. People who do not shoot on the machine are a good candidate for my recommendation. It is possible for "machine gunners" to misinterpret a shallow depth of field while the aperture is wide open, which can put them in perilous situations. The 16-85 or 18-105 regular zoom lenses from Nikon are going to be the superior choice for them. Perhaps they will also be more convenient for traveling purposes as well.
