Mesh is too tight

My kids love this kind of fidgeting but the net is too narrow so you have to squeeze really hard to get the ball through the net. For the others we had, you don't usually have to press as hard. They may not last long since you have to squeeze so hard. They feel like they're about to burst. I think if we remove the grille it will be more comfortable. I can try removing the white connector and see if that helps. I bought them in Halloween gift bags as there were a lot of them and I love that they come with a container.
