This case protects a slim Mazda MX5 credit card key. It does not affect the use of buttons and protects the physical key from falling out of the card and being lost. However, if you must use a metal key, it takes a bit of work to slide the case aside and get to the key. But you will know it's safe. The reason I bought the case was because my physical key would no longer stay locked and fell out. I tried to hold it in place with a rubber band but it broke and fell off and looked sticky.
