The refractometer showed us that our salinity was far off!

This product showed us that our traditional floating needle salinity tester that we have been using for decades is obsolete! He read that our salinity was 1.022, the refractometer showed our aquarium was 1.028! We couldn't believe it so we took the refractometer to our local fish shop to make sure we were using it correctly and that it was properly calibrated. To our shock and surprise, this is true, and our fish live in higher salinity than we thought.

Faster and easier than a hydrometer

I got this refractor for my Opae Ula (native Hawaiian brackish water shrimp) and it seems to be pretty accurate. I wasn't worried about accuracy due to the shrimp's endurance. The only complaint is that the eyepiece seems pretty cheap and it's nowhere near calibrated when I received it (I fully expected it to be different from other reviews). Calibration was very easy, just a few drops of distilled or reverse osmosis water, turn the screw and you're done. I'll try it next time I need to set upโ€ฆ

I have been waiting for months to post a review to ensure an honest opinion. Very accurate. From time to time (not often enough to be a problem) the refractometer needs to be recalibrated to ensure accuracy. However, I just take the extra step of always checking accuracy before changing the water in my tank. Looks solid, comes with everything you need to make water testing easy. I would recommend a table lamp if you can't get strong enough light from a window to get a clear reading. Feel freeโ€ฆ
