Review on ASUS C621E Sage Workstation Motherboard by Wayne Flores

Let me start by saying this board is an ABSOLUTE UNIT motherboard!. That being said, if you decide to use this board, DO NOT BUY IT ON AMAZON! Buy direct from ASUS! The first one I got was DOA. The second didn't read all PCIe slots. The third read all the PCIe slots, but only the DIMM slots for a processor socket! I then decided to send the third board back directly through ASUS instead of sending it back through Revain and in fact the fourth board I received works great! I don't know if ASUS refurbished the board I sent them or just sent me a brand new one, but all that mattered to me was that it finally worked... The main issue for me during this ordeal was, that I was limited in time to work on my builds and due to the complexity of this one I had to install everything just to test the board including two custom water loops (I would have used air cooling initially if I had at least suspected that this would happen because this is the first defective board I've received from ASUS, let alone three). Long story short, I actually had to completely disassemble/rebuild the entire system four times, although the second and third time I saved time/effort by using one GPU and only one DIMM stick per CPU, just to get to get to the bios sure that everything looks right. All in all, due to the limited time given, this system took almost a year to build, and even if I had unlimited time to work on it (like the good old days), I'm sure it would still take at least 1 year would - 2 months to complete just because everything else is left aside, that's how long it would take you to get paid. 1600W - EVGA SuperNOVA 850 T2, 80+ TITANIUM 850W (Overkill, but I had one laying around) - 768GB RAM, (12 x 64GB DDR4 2666 modules) - 2 x Intel Xeon Gold 6254 processors (36 cores, 72 threads) , base frequency 3.1 GHz, water) with cooling) - 4x Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti (2x NVLink in a water block with four GPUs, 2x RTX 3090 coming soon ... hopefully) - 1 TB Samsung 980 Pro PCIe m .2 SSD - 2x 4TB Samsung 860 Pro SSD secondary storage - 18TB HDD backup storage - 420mm radiator (top) - 360mm radiator (front) - 14 fans (5x 120mm front, 3x 120mm bottom, 5x 140mm top, 1x 140mm rear) I use it as a dual workstation /render node for high quality 3D visualization including 3D rendering, animation, video editing, AR/VR development and maybe little after school games after hours :). I may have overdone it a bit with the RAM and PSUs, but either way this is a real monster! While it's never been as monstrous as this one, it's the fourth such dual-processor machine I've built for myself and my team of 3D designers/specialists (this is mine), who all run a render farm with 12 render nodes and 320 cores use in total. /640 threads for CPU rendering and an extensive set of GPUs for GPU rendering. In other words: very low gas/heating bills in winter, very high electricity bills all year round. It might seem like overkill for 3D rendering, but we work very fast and render in the background almost 100% of the time. With this build I can have both processors rendering at 100% in the background and still be able to use the machine and all of the software we use with little to no performance loss. Finally, make sure your case is compatible before purchasing this board! At the time of the original purchase I could only find four cases that it would fit in without modifications, two of which looked like spaceships and I don't think any of them had ALL the holes needed for mounting. Not sure if this was necessary as the board seemed solid, but I went ahead and drilled two holes that were missing in the Corsair 1000D case just in case because the 4x GPU water block array is VERY heavy is! gave it 3 stars because I couldn't decide whether to give it 5 stars because the board itself is amazing or give it 1 star because it turned out to be such a hassle to buy from Revain.
