When I bought my first carving knife from BeaverCraft, the company offered me two leather straps and putty. They just asked me to write a review. This review is the fulfillment of that promise. When two pieces of leather arrived, I noticed three things - about 3 inches wide, 8 inches long, and 0.18 inches thick, each with a piece of polishing paste: Each piece of leather had a consistent texture. and appearance with no visible defects. The underside of each leather piece looked synthetic. A company representative informed me that the products are made from 100% genuine leather that has been treated with a vegetable based tanning solution and has an even embossing on the non-smooth side. The texture of the embossing looks like small square dimples spaced about 1/32 inch apart. Leather has a stronger odor than ordinary tanned leather. In order for the lines to work optimally, I made a spatula in a 1/2" x 4" section of oak for each piece. In one of the attached pictures you can see that I glued one strap to the blade with the smooth side up and the other strap to the blade with the rough, embossed side up (I used Titebond III premium wood glue, which is recommended for becomes). glue leather to wood). . The photo showing both paddles also shows a piece of putty on the strap where I started applying the mixture. Another photo only shows the leather, which is completely covered with a rubbing paste. The next two photos show the blade of a BeaverCraft roughing knife over the belt and linkage. One photo shows a BeaverCraft blade. The composition under the blade looks even and flat. In another photo, the knife blade was passed through the belt three times on each side. The mass underneath is unevenly shaped and looks a bit darker. A darker appearance of the composition clearly indicates that the polishing compound has removed small pieces of metal from the blade. If you can enlarge the blade you will see that the polishing paste has given the blade a smoother surface. The blade was sharp enough to cut before using it on a belt. The belt made it sharper. I have limited experience with the planing knife, I only started using it six months ago when I started wood carving again. I tried carving thirty years ago but was frustrated by how difficult it was to make precise, clean cuts with knives and chisels. With the advent of easy access to online instructional videos, many videos explain how to sharpen knives and kerfs for maximum carving efficiency. Watching the video, it became clear that my thirty-year-old problem was due to a lack of razor-sharp tools. Proper use of a good sling along with other good grinding methods solves the problem. Leather and Beavercraft Sling Compound ensure a good sling. Like some others, I chose to place the skin on a hard, flat surface. Others prefer to use leather with just the polish applied. Do what fits your lifestyle. And have fun carving!
