Doesn't work, straight out of the box - EDIT: The replacement works great!

I had trouble with it right away. First, as soon as I turned it on, it alternated between the HP logo and a black screen. Logo, black screen. Logo, black screen. Rinse and repeat. Finally, by hitting the escape key a few dozen times, I got into the BIOS. Second, the arrow keys didn't work, but I was able to reset the date and time, after which the laptop booted into Windows. After the installation process was complete, I ran Windows Updates. The arrow keys didn't work on Windows either. Third, the computer froze on the first reboot and alternated between the HP logo and a black screen. For four hours. I finally got back into the BIOS. I ran memory and hard drive hardware tests and passed both successfully, but the laptop still wouldn't boot. After trying a few different options, I was finally able to get it to boot into Windows by selecting the recovery process from the BIOS menu. Fourth, I tried going into Windows Update again and the screen started to stagger, rapidly switching between menu items. . I pressed escape and it finally stopped. The trackpad also became unresponsive at times. Very unpleasant! Fifth, I saw that it needed to be restarted to finish installing updates, so I tried restarting. The arrow keys don't work here either. Then it started staggering again, rapidly scrolling through the power menu options. I pressed escape and was able to restart my computer. Sixth, it froze again during boot and drove to a black screen with the HP logo. Again I had to go into the BIOS and select the recovery option to get it to boot into Windows. At this point, six hours had passed and I was completely confused. I factory reset the laptop and securely wiped the hard drive. The laptop freezes again and alternates between black screen and HP logo. This computer has not gone through a quality assurance program in any way as part of the upgrade process, so I do not recommend purchasing it. I understand this is a used computer and I never expected it to be perfect. But I expected it to be in good condition. This is a good computer; not even a scratch on it. But it doesn't work! I contacted the company and asked for a replacement. I hope they make sure the replacement (if they send it to me!) works. I definitely hope I don't run out of money on this purchase! :( EDIT: The company was very helpful and replaced the laptop with no problems. I received the replacement a week later and the new one is amazing. No problems at all and very quick for what I need (budgeting and finances, browsing the web ).web and It's nice, small and light and fits in my pocket leaving room for a spare cord.My only complaint is that the power cord isn't OEM, it's one of those crappy generic power cords with adapters. But it works, so it does is not that important for the money they are great just note that these are RMA laptops that are no longer leased so they may have issues.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • Lots of stuff
