This is a huge improvement over my old tongs (e.g. mid 2000's). This crimping tool has a temperature setting. It heats up quickly and you can control how deep you want the curl by controlling how long you hold the curl in place. I have very long hair (knee length - I'm 5'10"). 3 to 4 hours with my old curling iron to get a decent curl. I can curl all my hair in 1 hour with a medium curl, or 1, 5 hours for a deep curl and 45 minutes for a soft curl I highly recommend this perm I have fairly thick hair (Asian/Italian) so I can use the hottest setting but I would recommend you go with a low Start the temperature to see if you like the curls and how they work for your hair and slowly increase the temperature If you have thin, brittle hair you will want to use the lowest setting to avoid burning your hair.
