Other commenters here are dumb and don't realize the point is to have foam at the top. You can pull the handle towards you for regular beer, and push it for foam. Don't push the lever before you pull it or else you will get a glass of just foam.The foam on the top, which I like to have 3 cm (one inch) or more, makes the beer taste a lot better. At least 30% better. IPA's taste less hoppy, beers just taste better in general. You have like a creamy smooth taste. It is hard to describe. The science behind it is they use sound waves to make the small densely packed bubbles of the head. It makes a beer taste like draught.
