Review on 🌑️ Accurate CDN Large Dial Cooking Thermometer - Precise Temperature Readings for Perfect Cooking by Joseph Harkins

Extremely inaccurate - "calibration " is nonsense

I tried this for the first time tonight. What a disappointment. Speaking of WAY OFF, this thing isn't even on the soccer field. Test 1: Boneless Grilled Chicken - I cooked it on a regular grill for the usual amount of time. I used this thermometer in the middle of the meat. It showed 112 degrees. Q. It doesn't seem right, I pulled out my digital thermometer and it read 166 degrees. F in the same place (ah, just right!). I ate chicken. Test 2: a pot of boiling water. It's not entirely accurate to say that water always boils at 212 F. It's just "pure" water at sea level. I live at about 3,000 feet above sea level where the theoretical boiling point of water is 206 degrees. Q. This thermometer reads 180 degrees. Q. My digital says 207. I believe the digital. Now comes the calibration. There is a nut on the back of this thermometer. You can rotate it, which essentially flips the reading surface. So of course I can get this thing to read 207 degrees. F in boiling water but now it thinks the ambient temperature in my house is 116 degrees when it's actually 68 degrees. Well, if I had a source that was 155 degrees, I could set this thing to match that, and then it would be relatively close in the range of cooked meat, but why bother? "Accuracy within 2 degrees" and "can even be recalibrated"? I do not think so. He goes back to the seller.
