GOOD FOR WHAT IT IS

I like the big dial but find it a bit difficult to calibrate as the gauge doesn't read to zero. Also, there is no built in tool for setting the calibration in the case (my other thermometers have it). Also, the needle seems to stick a bit on this device, so I have to tap it on the pan to get an accurate reading. Once that's done, it seems to give accurate readings. But overall I wouldn't buy it again.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Too dumb

I'm a chef so you can trust me.

The matter is simple and fundamental. I like the ease of use. I love that it has a focal point for many popular proteins. If you know how to calibrate a thermometer, you shouldn't have a problem with it. This is the third thermometer I've bought in the last decade (and used countless more!) and it's my favorite of the standard analog types. something cheap and useful, take it.

Pros
  • Inspires confidence
Cons
  • Without insurance

Glass? MELTING Then I checked the fine print.

You're kidding! They used PLAKTIK to cover the dial. I looked in the oven to see the temp and WTF,,,, THE LID MELT! This is the worst piece of shit EVER. But Revain gave me my money back. UPDATE: After reading the fine print and honestly it says not to leave it in the flesh. So risk burning yourself and singeing your eyebrows by checking the temperature of the meat from time to time during cooking. I've never heard anything so funny? I still give 1 star.

More accurate and faster than the smaller models I've tried

I really like the large dial which makes this thermometer easy to read. It reacts very quickly to temperature changes, which is important to me. The arrow bounces a bit when moving, but maybe that's because it heats up so quickly (I pour hot water over it straight from the kettle). It seems fairly accurate in large numbers, which was important to me since I measure the brewing temperature of coffee and tea. This appears to be accurate even at room temperature. (It doesn't measure below 60…

Inaccurate from packaging

This is an easy to see and use device. I bought it because my old CDN thermometer had a crack. In delivery state, it read over 120 degrees. The package says to look online for more information as it came with no calibration instructions. All I could find online was information on how to sell the product. Did an ice water test using google info and it didn't budge. I tried to adjust the measuring nut but could not move the nut. Returned. I bought the same from the local kitchen store which read…

Unsatisfied. in Instant-Read

The thermometer I received is not working properly. Instead of the dial constantly rising, it jumps and jumps. This makes it very difficult to determine the actual temperature as you never know if the jumping around is done or not, and if so, whether the actual temperature will be read or rounded up or down. This is adequate on a very basic level (it ensures you don't poison anyone as long as the needle jumps above the correct temperature reading), but doesn't work at all for medium roasts or…

Not Quite Instant: Reads Immediately

First of all I would like to say that I bought this thermometer for candle making and other crafts, not for cooking. (As you can see, it only works up to 220, so it's clearly not suitable for a candy thermometer; and the lid is plastic, so you can't keep it in the oven if you want to measure the internal temp.) said it seems accurate to be enough - more or less the same as the digital thermometer I also had. In contrast, however, this one doesn't require batteries and wasn't noticeably slower…

Extremely inaccurate - "calibration " is nonsense

I tried this for the first time tonight. What a disappointment. Speaking of WAY OFF, this thing isn't even on the soccer field. Test 1: Boneless Grilled Chicken - I cooked it on a regular grill for the usual amount of time. I used this thermometer in the middle of the meat. It showed 112 degrees. Q. It doesn't seem right, I pulled out my digital thermometer and it read 166 degrees. F in the same place (ah, just right!). I ate chicken. Test 2: a pot of boiling water. It's not entirely accurate…
