It can be a bit overwhelming to look at all the hard drive options available. Versions SMR, CMR, 5400-7200 rpm, NAS and then levels within each type. When I narrowed it down to around 5 I started looking at the star ratings and this one was 4.4! However, I didn't respond to the reviews for the exact device I ordered (6TB / 256MB cache) which are downright terrible. Within 24 hours I had a SMART error popup on HWinfo. I was monitoring the CPU/GPU temps on a new build and scrolled down to verify my 1 year old WD 550 NVME is working (100% and working great) and saw a big red YES for a drive failure on this brand new one Drive. . I literally only transferred about 1TB of data. Well-ventilated case (Be Quiet 500dx with optional fan), room temperature around 28 Β°C (I'm a curmudgeon). I think the drive came out sometime in the mid 40's, well within spec. What the hell is real? The only discs I've ever encountered were just worn out. One was a medieval 80GB drive that sounded like a baseball card in bike spokes when it worked, and a very old Seagate 1TB external drive that was our dual backup drive for almost a decade. It is, and I've had particularly good luck with Toshiba, so I figured it would be a good bet. The noise was a bit more than I expected, probably related to this seek error, but didn't seem unusual. As soon as this error appeared I contacted Toshiba with the intention of making a replacement through Revain as it was not Revains fault. First off, Toshiba's warranty page looks like a gray minefield, "we'll try to deny it for sure" and the person I contacted over the phone said they'd refund rather than replace, and it will probably take 4 hours. -6 weeks. Eh, no? Pretty much everything I've just read in the reviews regarding their retail warranty solution is 100% true. I contacted Revain who arranged for me to order a replacement. I will update this review once I have spares for a while. If it's a piece of crap too, this should be a cool upgrade because I'll be going through Toshiba next time. If everything works fine they might get 1 more star as 50% of the 2 drives I received still failed. Yes, I understand the picture is grainy, that's what you get when you take a picture of the screen with your phone. Sue me.
