These bowls are perfect for French onion soup. They held back the heat of the cauldron so I could melt the cheese. They were the perfect size, I didn't want a large plate because the soup was only the first course. They cleaned up very well as there was melted cheese on the sides of the bowl and the dishes weren't ready right away. It was exactly what I was looking for, I am very happy with my purchase
