Great mapping tool for GPS, finders and accessories

This is one of those AWESOME little mapping tools! I bought it about 3 weeks ago and I love it. It is very easy to use and has many features. It's a GPS you can put in your shirt pocket and the controls are easy to use. Although most of the features are required for navigation, there are some downsides. First, it's not designed to be submerged in water. In fact, it is not sealed and is simply considered "rainproof". This can cause problems when using this device near water or when hiking during a severe thunderstorm. It does not perform automatic address routing. Although the MetroGuide map is loaded with the information you need, you can "find" a specific address and eMap will point you to it. It records elevation, but this page is embedded in multiple layers. When the map is displayed, you cannot see the boundaries of the map sections if you zoom out less than 30 miles. Several maps (on CD) can be downloaded from the Garmin website. I bought MetroGuide USA, World Map, Topo Map USA (including Alaska and Hawaii), MetroGuide Italy and Roads & Rec. Italy. I'll take them to Italy in September and to China in November. I like it. It has many useful features. I also bought a cigarette lighter adapter, dash mount and external antenna. I haven't connected an external antenna yet, but there were no reception problems in a pickup with the built-in antenna. Indoor reception not possible. MapSource maps are expensive but complete. You probably don't need two cards for Italy. I think this is a great GPS navigator and I recommend it to anyone who wants an easy to use pocket sized GPS map.

Pros
  • Automatic Track Log lets you track your way both ways
Cons
  • Mostly good, but...
