I have an all-electric kitchen, so it's difficult to make popcorn on the stovetop, and using electric appliances is cheaper than using an electric stove. Anyway, I love old-fashioned popcorn and I have a great recipe for butter and butter mixes. This machine warns against putting oil in the kettle, but I had to try it myself. It came out great! Actually better than on the stove. 1 batch was enough for me but it's also very quick, I use soybean oil which is a bit heavier than most (except corn oil) and I didn't get many grains with the oil I mixed in. of probably about the same or less than what I get for a record. I like that the square bucket keeps me from oversalting. I'm very happy with this little guy.
